Find My... iPad?

I got a new (to me) iPad10 for Christmas. Love it! But, by default Find My was enabled. Okay, great, what's not to like?

Well, every time I left home, with my iPhone but not with my iPad, I got an alert that Find My noticed that my iPad was at certain coordinates (my home address)!

Why would this continually happen? It was such an aggravation, that I shut off Find My for the iPad. But, then I got an email saying this:

With Find My disabled, this device can no longer be located, placed in Lost Mode, or remotely erased using icloud.com/find or the Find My app. In addition, your Apple ID and password will no longer be required for someone to erase, reactivate, and use your iPad.

OK, this sounds like I have sacrificed quite a lot not to be aggravated by a silly error message every time I go anywhere without the iPad. Is there some way I can keep the advantages of Find My described in the email above and NOT get the ridiculous error message when I leave home without it? And, is this something new? I don't recall ever getting such a message in the past. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

If you have the "left Behind" notifications it will warn you that it has been left behind.

You can set your home as a location where Left Behind is not activated.
