2018 MacBook Pro 15" Flexgate

I am having the exact issue shown in the below video where the screen works when half open, and then when opened to the normal position the screen turns off, they call it Flexgate.

I took it to the Apple Store, they told me that it was not possible in my model of MacBook and they could fix it but the cost to repair was slightly less than buying a new machine which is quite wasteful when the rest of the laptop is fine.

To me it seems odd for Apple to deny it is a known issue when you Google the issue and see this has been an issue with multiple models and this exact model (as seen in the video).

It may speak to the number of people who actually have taken the complaint to AppleCare directly or taken it upon themselves to fix the problem. This being a user to user forum with Apple moderation may get some Apple attention, but even more would be actual case numbers of people affected.

Apple Service Programs - Apple Support

usually offers remedies for machines outside of the 3 year protection plan if a general issue has been found.

You can also extend beyond the normal three year on AppleCare Plus http://www.apple.com/support/

Keep in mind any damage that is obviously accidental is very difficult to justify for warranty repair.

The hinge of the screen offers physical resistence when you push back which if ignored could create enough tension to cause damage.

Apple's included box has a plastic form fitting container inside the box that fits around the laptop to prevent too much innertial shock during shipping. I worked in a place with over 600 Macs going back and forth to people working from home. Those that shipped in straight bubble wrap fairly frequently had screens that looked cracked upon arrival when you turned them on. Those that shipped in the original box and plastic form fitting piece were usually OK.

The forum does not let us guess Apple's policy, and it would be really helpful with a complaint like yours to contact Apple Support and ask to speak to customer relations so they can get record in their repair system what is going on.
