No, there is no “update” to support 5G. You’ll need to buy a 5G capable phone. That means an iPhone 12 or newer.

No. And there never will be for an iPhone Xr. It simply doesn't have a 5G Modem and one cannot be added. If you want a 5G iPhone you'll need to purchase a much newer iPhone, which has the hardware to connect to a 5G Network.
