Lockbox app not available on App Store

Been using this app for years to store private secure info. Bank act numbers, passport # etc. now when I go to open it the pop up says it’s not available on apple App Store and I can’t open. How can I get the info?

Update:

Just got off the phone with Jonathan at Apple Customer Svs. I told him the whole story about the LockBox app disappearing off iPad and my accidental deletion of LockBox on my iphone and not being able to find it on Apple apps to be able to reinstate it on my phone. I also told him about the complaints on this forum. He told me that third-party apps are not the responsibility of Apple and that we would have to reach out to the developer which someone in another thread said is GEE! technologies. While I was on the phone with him I searched for this company online and we couldn’t find any leads. I did say to him if Apple is allowing third-party apps in their App Store are they not vetted and researched before they’re allowed to be purchased or used for free? He said that’s a good point and something that needs to be brought up with his superiors. I told him I was concerned that a third-party has all my personal information, pass codes, passport numbers, drivers license numbers, ss no’s and on. We went through the process of me filling out a feedback/complaint form and submitting it to Apple. Apple says that they cannot reach out personally to each person, but the information will be looked at. He did say that bringing it to his attention and him sending on the information to his superiors should resolve this issue. I stated in my complaint that I am concerned about personal information being left with a third-party and that I would like my information to be able to be retrieved and the problem resolved. The only way to know if anything has changed is by constantly looking here or elsewhere online to see if Apple has done anything to resolve this issue. And Jonathan also said when you’re using a third-party app to store sensitive information you need to look at what risks you’re taking. I automatically assumed that because Apple offered the apps on their App Store that they were automatically vetted. He did not know what precautions Apple takes when offering third-party apps.

Jonathan then showed me that there is a password section in Settings on iPhone where you can look at your passwords and change them if you need to. It does not work the same as LockBox and does not allow you to do anything else other than save passwords.

Hope this helps some of you out there.

i also have this issue, fortunatley its with a new phone so the old phone has the app which is still accessable, i wonder if , for those that can, rolling back their device to a previous backup would allow access to the app and allow data to be taken off?

No. Apps are not stored in your backup. A reference to the app is but when you restore the phone, the app is re-downloaded. If it is no longer available, it doesn't get downloaded.

Hello All. I have been using LockBox Pro for like a decade and hav over a hundred passwords I cannot access. Does anyone know how I can retrieve my data?

You probably will never be able to access that data again. For the future, if you want to store passwords, use Apple's Keychain or a reputable password manager such as 1Password.

I have lockbox pro as an app on iPhone but can’t open to retrieve data. Has anyone had any procedure yet to be able the access. Please any recommendations are really appreciated. I have data that is very important to be retrieved. Thank you!

If you can find contact information for the developer, ask them.

This is why I recommend never using those sort of apps. People end up not being able to access important data when the developer stops supporting it.

This is brutal. Apple should give us some form of advance warning before disabling their approved apps. I've been using this app for many years - at least we should be given the opportunity to transfer the information.

Apple doesn't disable the apps. The app developers stop supporting and/or updating the app.

Apple offers a very good password manager. I'm sure if they were discontinuing it, they would let people know.

This happened to me and it created an immense problem. I really think Apple should warn you when an App is no longer available, so that frustrating situations like thus can be avoided

In most cases, even Apple does not get any warning. The developer just goes online and removes the app with a click of a button. Apple does not own the app, so they can't keep it in the App Store after the developer removes it. The same is true if you closed your Instagram account, Meta can't keep your personal info and continue to make it available for others or warn others it is about to be deleted. Only you can do that.
