FCP: Playing clips in list mode in browser

I have a few projects that have come in to FCP with Keywords. When I press the space bar to play a clip in the browser I get the drop down to show the keyword collection where the clip is selected instead of playing the clip.

I tried deleting all the keyword collections, and when I hit the spacebar to play the clip it then shows me the options for video roles.

I need list view for the clips while I organize. Yet I don't know the name of the keyboard short cut that is allowing spacebar to show keywords and / or video rolls to change them from the space bar.

Hope this makes sense. It's a real slow down in the work flow.

You are seeing normal behavior for list. It's always been like this.

You have to click the clip's thumbnails first in the browser to play it back, you can't just click on the name then the space bar, as would be logical. Nope, you select the clip, the highlight the thumbnail, then hit the space bar.

I did not. I recently deleted and reinstalled FCP to fix another problem. This did not fix the space bar play problem. In list view it still pulls up the keywords or roles options. I have to clip on the clip at the top for the space bar to play first... frustrating.

When you press space, keep an eye on the menu bar. Can you see which (if any) menu title highlighting?

In normal use, ie., with space causing playback to start or stop, it highlights the View menu (because the command is actually View->Playback->Play)

If something else highlights, we may dig into that menu to try and find what is getting activated, and maybe figure out how to prevent that.

Also: does "space" show as the shortcut in the View->Playback->Play?
