Known design & manufacturing flaw, but Apple only acknowledged the issue on the 2016 model even though the 2017 models are also affected (even some 2018-2020 still have this issue although it occurs less often with the later models).

FYI, there are so many other issues with the non-Touchbar model, that it would not be worth repairing. The SSDs in the non-Touchbar model have an extremely high rate of failure (I hope you have good backups) and the Butterfly keyboards have their own design & manufacturing issues as well. By now I'm sure the Battery is likely worn out or even failing. Plus the 2017 model is now "Vintage" with the last fully supported version of macOS being 13.x Ventura which will stop receiving security updates by the end of 2025 (with many third party apps no longer being updated at that point as well). I personally would not invest any money into this laptop and put any money towards a replacement laptop.

Edit: Actually Ventura should be supported until the end of 2025. I've corrected the mistake in the body of the message.
