ghost ipad imessage notifications

I receive notices on my ipad of imessages showing only a phone number but with no actual message and no record of the notice once it disappears. Both my iphone and ipad are set up exactly the same with imessage turned on but these notices never appear on my iphone.

Hi there!

I hope besides your issue your doing well.

Assuming that your iCloud for the iPad and iPhone are the same please follow the steps below since your iPad may be blacklisted to display messages:

Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding - set to ON - and explicitly enable your iPad from the list of devices.

If your settings are done correctly and have tried again please also try restarting your devices.

On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

I would have recommended contacting your SIM provider as they may be interfering with this process (please note this is very unlikely).

Also please try this video and see if you have done the steps correctly:

*******

This video is not mine.

If none of these work. Please reply to me with the following:

  • What iOS version you use (to make sure)
  • If it is iMessage you are having the problem with or other apps (such as WhatsApp).

Stay Safe!

Have a great day.

Hi there!

Thanks for clarifying that. It really helped!

Please follow the steps below:

On your device, go to Settings > Notifications > Messages. Move the toggle next to "Allow Noticiations" to Off. Wait for several seconds and move the toggle back to On. Then check if the ghost message notification has been removed.

Please also check if you have blocked unknown senders by following the steps below:

Go to Settings > Messages, scroll down to Message Filtering, then turn on Filter Unknown Senders.

Others has also had this problem but is still a new junction to the iOS system.

If this does not work please answer the questions below:

  • Have you tried sending a message to yourself using a familiar phone number to the iPad/iPhone

If none of these work and you have tried this I would recommend contact apple by going to Apple Support

Kind regards!

Thanks for your reply. I currently use ios 17.2.1 on my iphone and 17.2 on my ipad. As to which apps are the problem, all I know is the ghost notices say I have received an imessage with a phone number and no text. I also need to mention that I receive all text messages on my ipad that I receive on my iphone. My record of text messages are identical on the two devices. This issue only effects my ipad and these "ghost" notices I receive on my ipad only which leave no record (that I have found).

Thanks again for your reply and suggestions. Whatever action I take, there is no way to tell if it worked except for never getting another ghost message again. These message notifications leave no record that I have been able to find. They appear and then are gone. As a result, there is nothing I can check to see if an action has fixed the problem.
