We connected the air tag to the iphone and the "find my app. The support page says "To register your AirTag with your Apple ID, tap Continue again." But no "continue" prompt appeared?
We have successfully connected the AirTag to the iPhone, and we have named the Airtag, so we don't need help with that.

Ok, so it looks like you have tried everything possible that you can do ... so, at this time, I would suggest that you contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this matter. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page. Sorry, I couldn't help you with a solution.
In theory, successfully pairing an Apple AirTag with your iPhone, should associate it with your Apple ID. The support article you arrived here from should have provided you with the steps to do so. It appears from your post that, that pairing did not complete properly.
Is this a brand new AirTag, that you got directly from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller? Did is still have the small tag that you needed to remove to active its battery?
Where are you looking to see if this tag is associated with your Apple ID?
Thank you. It's a new Airtag from the Apple store. The battery was activated; otherwise, I would not have been to connect the AirTag to the iphone, as I described. Maybe the Airtag is already registered with the Apple ID when it was connected to the phone. But the support page describes registering the Airtag as an extra step available with a continue button.
