Typical FCP project devolved into nonstop beach balling

MacBook Pro 16 inch 2021 M1 Pro 16GB

Software updated

Etrecheck report attached

Typical FCP project with mix of media from 4K to less, lots of compound clips -nothing crazy- has been working fine but then started lagging more and more as I cut the project, and now I can barely open the project after I force quit. No google software ever installed. Thanks so much for any help you can give.

Have you tried deleting the render cache? Perhaps there's a corrupt render file. I'd think a newly created library wouldn't have a corrupt render file, but it's an easy thing to try.

Select the library in the browser, choose File->Delete Generated Library Files... Choose All Render files.

Just checked other projects in in the same library. Getting beachballed there also.

yes I deleted the settings

internal drive only, media stored in library.

perhaps this is worth mentioning. When the situation first started, I began using an autosave backup library instead which helped a bit. But the problem got worse so now both the autosaved one and the original are beachballing.

just checked a completely unrelated library and that is working fine. So this problem seems specific to this one library.

I tried making a new library and pasting the edited clips from the problematic project in a new timeline. Also made proxy media for everything. Still getting spinning wheel with nearly every action.

This is a relatively new laptop and I haven't encountered this kind of problem until now. All my upcoming projects will be similar in terms of complexity, so I'm very worried about identifying the underlying issue.

Thanks again!
