Unable to swipe up, exit apps and use emojis on iPhone

I have an iPhone 12 Pro and I cannot exit apps and use my emojis. I’ve been dealing with this problem for a while and I really want to get it fixed. So far, I’ve been swiping left of my Lock Screen and searching up the apps I wanted to use. I can only swipe up for instance when my phone dies and it takes me to my Home Screen after I unlock my phone. Can anyone help me? Does this mean I need a new phone? Do I need to take it to Apple?

(1) Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

Press and quickly release Volume UP button
Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

(2) If that does not help, then contact 👉 Official Apple Support OR you can always get your iPhone examined at the Apple Store 👉 Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options or at an Authorized Service Center for further diagnosis and evaluation.
