Deleted a logic pro project file while naming the file for saving; is it gone forever?

I was finishing a beat in Logic Pro and went to close the project. The prompt began of "save" and "don't save" and I clicked save. Then a finder window popped up with my logic folder and my projects. The name of the file was going to be "untitled" and it was highlighted. I pressed the delete key on my mac keyboard to start typing the new name of the project file, but I was also holding down the command key as I pressed the delete key for some reason.

All of the sudden, the finder window and window of the beat closed and I was stupefied. I looked in my "open recent project" dropdown menu and I could not locate the file. It appears that somehow I had deleted my project as I was in the process of saving it. Is there a way that I have simply closed the project and it is located somewhere or that I can recover it from deletion, or is it gone forever?

If the beat from that project file is gone forever, I would be seriously heartbroken. This was my first good beat in over 3 months as I have suffered immense beat-block. It was so complex, taking me two hours to finish, albeit without proper arrangement.

I hope that if the beat is truly deleted, it can at least be the necessary sacrifice for Logic devs to add a second prompt along the lines of "Are you sure that you would like to delete this project?" (or at least add the option to turn "confirm project deletion" in preferences/settings). I would appreciate if the devs can add more safeguards to prevent accidental file deletion. It is a classic tragedy that could be prevented by more of these measures (especially if the safeguards can be toggled on/off in logic preferences/settings to satisfy those who would not appreciate the extra annoyance of the extra confirmation).

Your project is probably in the MacOS Trash.

Open the trash. It should be on the bottom right of your dock. Then look for your project. If you haven't emptied your trash in a while and have a lot of items, click on the recently modified column so the arrow is pointing down. Your project should be at, or near the top of the list. Control-click on the project and you should see a menu. Click on Put Back. This will put your project back where it belongs.

Go to your Logic Project Folder. Usually ~/Music/Logic. Your project should be there. It might be "untitled, or could have nothing for a name since you hit delete. If you want to change the name. just Single click on project and then Return. This will highlight the name. There is no need to delete, just type the new name and the old one will disappear.

You should be back in business with your beat.

I've tried to reproduce your save process, but no matter which additional button I press, I can name and save the project correctly. There is a chance, it's still on your hard drive. You can search for the file on your hard drive, look for the date. Spotlight search can be tedious but it is possible, otherwise look for trusted third party search apps.

There are some "safeguards" built in Logic, but they require you save the projects.

For me, there are 3 simple and golden rules, when it comes to working with computer:

1. Naming a project before starting it

2. Save frequently

3. Backup frequently

Good luck finding the file.
