I understand the links provided by a Google search stall or don't load, but did you try using a different search engine?

The links returned by Google incorporate tracking codes in the URL so that is a likely reason they don't load. Content-blockers will interfere with them, which is the reason I suggested uninstalling any that may be affecting its results. Uninstalling content blockers on an iPhone require removing the app; merely deactivating it might not be sufficient. I do not know if "MS Defender" is an iPhone app or not but the same recommendations apply to it.

Try uninstalling "MS Defender". It may be useful or even necessary for PCs running Microsoft Windows, but such things serve no beneficial purpose on Macs. Even if the problem should persist after its removal, it provides no benefit and should be removed in the interest of having your Mac work the way it was designed to work. Uninstall it in accordance with its instructions.

I thought so, but am am having trouble determining which app is blocking the redirects and popups. I’ve disabled popup blocking and other settings in Safari, Chrome, and Malwarebytes. I have MS Defender but there is no add blocking and I do not have the VPN turned on. Safari, Chrome, and Google browsers all hang when clicking on sponsored ads. This was working a couple of days ago. I’m almost 100% certain I didn’t make any configuration changes but now I'm starting to second guess myself.
