Beginner User: Can you save a file without encoding/transcoding? (Final Cut Pro or Compressor)

Hello there,

Is there a way to just save a trimmed file in Final Cut Pro or Compressor without any encoding/transcoding?

I want Final Cut Pro or Compressor to leave the existing settings alone and just save it. I don't need/want it to do any encoding or transcoding.

For example, I dropped a 12GB 1080p .mp4 file from my YouTube channel into Final Cut Pro to remove some footage. I removed three sections totaling less than 15mins and then the export took over 90mins and tripled the file size.

I'm normally pretty good at finding an answer, but so far all of the tutorials/guides/solutions are either outdated or simply don't work as described/expected. Based on my research, the answer is to use another program, but I really like Final Cut Pro as a program so I'm hoping there's a solution.

Alternatively, maybe I should be asking:

What best practice can I use to limit export time/quality loss while keeping the file size close to the original?

Thanks in advance for any help/assistance.

FCP by default exports 1080p H.264 files with a bit rate of around 20 Mbps whereas your YouTube movie is probably 5 - 7 Mbps.

You need to make a new custom preset in Compressor which can be used in FCP.
