Putting my existing iTunes on a new iPod classic

I'll be getting a brand new iPod shortly and want to set that one up as my primary one...since that one just died after almost 15 years.

What I mean by 'primary' is...I have 2 iPods and the second does not offer RESTORE when connected, while my original primary iPod did.

How do I make my new iPod my new PRIMARY iPod?

Thank you SO MUCH for your help!!

Sync by Playlists, artists, albums and genres.

This is achieved as follows:

    • connect the iPod that you want to manage to your iTunes Library and tap the device icon once it appears:

    • that will display the Device/Settings/Summary pane. Using the screenshot below as your guide, switch to the Device/Settings/Music pane (1.):

    • make sure that the Sync Music button (2.) is ticked (checked)
    • choose the Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres option (3.). This will cause the options below there (4.) to be shown (they are not shown if you choose Entire music library (3.)
    • use the options within each areas marked as 4. to select only the items that you want to add to this specific iPod (you can see two of them in the screenshot - Playlists and Artists). Use the scroll bar on the right hand side to scroll down to Albums and Genres
    • tap the Sync (or Apply) button in the lower right corner of your iTunes window (not shown in the screenshot)

Your settings remain for this iPod until you change them;

    • if you have selected a specific artist for one iPod, then when you add another album by that artist to your library, it will be added to the iPod at the next Sync. You do not need to change the settings
    • similarly, if you have chosen to add a specific playlist to your iPod, if then subsequently add a song or songs to that playlists, they will be added to the iPod at the next Sync and if you remove songs from that playlist, they will be removed from the iPod at the next sync providing the songs are not in any other list (playlist, artist, album or genre) that you have selected for the iPod
