Am I out of luck with a 2010 macbook pro that will not boot up?

In the past I have been able to power up and then press Option Command and the letter R at the same time to perform a system recovery. Now that option does not work and gives a message to contact apple.com/support.

Bricked Mac Hello! One of my friends gave me his bricked 2011 Macbook Pro so I could try and fix it. The problem with it is that it won't boot up. When I boot it up, it loads a bit and then it shuts down and then it boots up again and so on. So I've decided to go into Recovery mode but turns out I can't use Recovery Mode because the startup volume is corrupted. Then I tried booting in Internet Recovery mode, but once it finishes loading, it puts the Mac in a boot loop again. I've also tried reinstalling the OS (High Sierra) from a bootable USB, but when I select the stick on boot, it gives me the prohibition sign. I managed to boot up the Mac on safe mode, I used Disk Utility to repair the partitions but it was in vain. It only told me that the startup volume is corrupted and the only way to fix it is by using Recovery Mode which I can't. And also, the only way I can boot up his Mac is by holding the power button for a couple of seconds, then plugging in the charger while still holding the power button. And apparently the Mac is saying that it can't show the battery percentage while the charger is plugged in. If I plug the charger out, the Mac shuts down. Can this Mac be fixed? I know this was long but I really want to fix this Mac. Thank you!

Not necessarily, but you will need that Mac's original, grey, System Install DVD.

Given the frequent necessity to boot Recovery I am guessing that Mac's startup drive has failed. It can be replaced, but then you will need to install an operating system — which requires that Mac's original, grey, System Install DVD.
