Apple Mail - Google Mail access - browser error

I just changed my password for my gmail account - been a long time, but do have authenticator working.

I can access my mail in IOS - iPhone and iPad, and in a web browser (Safari).

I have disabled all of my extensions in Safari and deleted the mail account in Apple Mail (I was unable to update my password).

So now adding account back to Apple Mail on my Mac (BTW Ventura 13.6.3 (22G436)) and getting the same issue.

I go to add the account using the Google option, enter my email, then the password and finally the 2FA code. I am prompted to grant access to my Mac, and when I click continue I get:

an error 400.

"400. That’s an error.

The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE: Clearer thinking allows for options...

I turned all my extensions back on after trying above. I have 1Blocker and 1Password.

I tried again and it failed. This time I pushed harder.

I right clicked and selected back, and was presented with option to try with reduced privacy permissions. I checked that, but no luck - same error message.

Then I tried back multiple times and after the third or fourth click, I was greeted with the expected allow permissions screen. I agreed and it worked (mostly)!!

Mail entered the new account in the list under all inboxes as a ghost entry (a blank space, the activity monitory reflected that mail was beginning to D/L messages.

I quit mail and restarted, the account showed up at the bottom of the list (no longer a ghost). I moved it where I wanted it and now its D/L 18K of messages.

HTH, please feel free to ask questions if you like.

Thanks,

Simon

On iOS Sonoma I was unable to get Google mail into Apple mail where all my mail is centralized. I was getting code 400 error messages. Apple was unable to fix it after 1 1/2 hours on the phone. In despair I called my techie son who fixed it in 15 min. Delete the original Google Mail from settings.

The fix is to make Chrome your default browser in Apple setting. Once that is done I was able to reinstall Google mail. Once that was done I changed the default browser back to Safari. Google mail reappeared in my mail box. The problem only existed on my MacBook Pro M1. The iPhone and iPad never had the problem. I hope this helps someone else.
