Yahoo Email Authentication Failed

I cannot get my email to work on my iMac. It works fine on my iPhone and iPad Pro. I have been trying since August to get resolved. I think it started when I changed a password on a Yahoo app, necessitating an update on my devices. I've read through threads on this community and still cannot get it to work. I created a secure mail key on AT&T ( they are the email access with Yahoo for me) and applied that in the password section of Apple mail under create a new account but it failed. Previous posts led to suggestions to go to Yahoo, and they send me back to Apple. Any suggestions would be appreciated .

Your next step is to call AppleCare who can help you troubleshoot your problem. However before you please do the following in this order:

  1. Read and ensure you have followed all the steps in Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
  2. If your mail still is not working as it should then restart the computer in Safe Mode (NOTE: Please be patient a Safe Mode restart can take up to 10 minutes)
  3. Restart the computer normally and retest mail

Finally, if you don't have any luck then you should call AppleCare. If you happen to be in the USA that number is (800) 275-2273. If you are outside the USA please click AppleCare Contact Info. You can be prepared by having your iMac's serial number information.

Thank you. I tried that too. Finally called Apple Support. They determined that my system was not supported for updates by Apple anymore - too old. And as my Safari browser can’t be updated, it can’t access the Yahoo site to login to my account. Makes sense as I recently lost access to a banking site too.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Looks like time for new computer.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried everything I could think of or read in Apple help. I am unable to get Yahoo to authenticate my account. I finally deleted the account and tried to re-add it as recommended in apple support but received message that “unable to verify account name or password “. I am not sure a safe mode reboot will help as I believe this is a login/verification issue vs software.

Also very apprehensive about losing my email on my other devices. I am able to access the email on ATT/Yahoo website so I know that the account is active. I am thinking that my only choice now is to contact Apple Care.

Thanks for your help
