Final Cut Pro X: Change duration of an image not working

I'm trying to use ctrl D to change the duration of images (defaults to 10:00) in the timeline. My steps:

Select an image in the timeline
Press CTRL + D
Click on the purple time under the preview
type in 500 and hit enter

Result:

image stays at 10:00 length

I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

Using FCP 10.7.1 on a M2 Mac Mini

Mac mini, macOS 10.12

I'm trying to set 90 photo clips to a duration of 4 seconds apart in a timeline using Inspector (i in a circle icon). It starts off as "0.2 s of 0.2s." When I change it to "4.0," it goes back to "0.2 or sometimes 0.7." Researching> Go to Project Properties (or Settings) to change set durations, etc., but it's unavailable in version 10-? Setting duration for still clips is a basic function. Why is this so difficult? I don't understand. And there are a lot of weird things about iMovie that one has to work around.

Duration of video/still/transition Fairly new to FCPX but having problems adjusting the duration of clips etc. Running version 10.7 on iMac with Sanoma 14.1.2. I use a mixture of stills and video segments for most of my stuff, the duration of which is commonly a few seconds - generally longer for the video clips. When I right click on a video segment, still photo or even a transition, the answer is commonly not what I type. Whole numbers seem to be OK, but fractions vary. e.g. if I type "400" the duration goes to 4:00 as expected. However, if I type "450", the duration goes to 6:02. No gaps or colons etc are used when I type. The errors seem to be consistent, with each other, i,e, 450 will always produce 6:02, 550 produces 7:02 etc. It also happens which ever way I change the duration, e.g.using modify in the menu or the shortcut keys. This is making it difficult to work with! Any help and guidance would be appreciated very much!

Changing the default timeline clip appearance in Final Cut Pro The more I use Final Cut, the shorter it defaults the timeline clip view. I have attempted a couple times to reset the program by starting it with command option. But my timeline clips keep getting smaller, and eventually they are super small even maxed out by the slide bar. Any ideas on how to adjust them to keep the slide bar lower? This is where the bar sits after a reset, but my clips keep getting smaller and smaller:

Try just pressing Control-D and typically 500 and enter, without clicking on the blue time display.

Don’t click. You’re then changing to reposition the playhead. Watch what happens after you click in the timeline display under the viewer.
