What solely determines your potential upgrade path is the model year, not "ten years old." Please do "About this Mac...." from your Apple menu and tell us what it shows for "Sub-Model" Example:
If the year is appended with a modifier like Early, Mid, or Late, include that as well; it can be important with older Macbook Pros. With that we can give you an exact answer; without it all we can do is post generalities.
That said, you need a 2018 or later Macbook Pro to run the latest macOS, v 14.X Sonoma.
