My prescription is out of range for Apple Vision Pro

Zeiss is saying my prescription (below, no Prism) is out of range for the apple vision pro.

This is quite disappointing. Are there other vendors or will Zeiss expand their range?

Right 1.75 -5.50 004

I plan to return the AVP as my family doesn't want to use this device, that my son cannot use.

I had the same issue. Zeiss maxes out at cylinders greater than -4.6. I talked to my ophthalmologist and they gave me a second prescription with the cylinders dialed down to -4.5 specifically for the inserts. They won’t be perfect but they should be just fine.

I am sure you have read the Support Article about using vision corrective lenses for the Apple Vision Pro, but for others you may be interested.

There has been no official word on if other vendor will be supported for corrective lenses. At this time Zeiss is the sole vendor and you may be able to get more information on from as they also have a link to keep you informed.

You mean to tell me every single person who has glasses in the USA has been to an eye doctor in the past year and has a "valid prescription" ?? Cmon. And it's Zeiss telling me they don't trust me to know my own eyes. If I go to RayBan.com now, I can simply enter the numbers of the prescription. No confirming I've been to an eye doctor or some BS. Just sell me the lenses I need. It's absurd. Would you go to the eye doctor for what, $150 or whatever and an hour of time just to get a new prescription for an AVP?

Well that's unfortunate. My issue is that I was last at the eye doctor Aug 2022 and I asked for a written prescription in case I needed it for anything else. It says "expires 1 year" and Zeiss will NOT accept it. Now I'm supposed to go to the eye doctor for an exam so I can have these stupid lenses? Absolutely not. My prescription is completely valid and my current glasses have this prescription...but now Zeiss demands this? Absolutely ridiculous and I'm about to cancel my entire order. What a way to ruin this. Great job Apple letting Zeiss do this.

It is not unreasonable to need to have a valid prescription to get lenses. You would not be able to get eye glasses without a valid prescription. Your eye doctor apparently wants you to come back every year, which is why your prescription specifies "expires 1 year". Not sure why that is Apple or Zeiss's fault.

According to RayBan:

Each State has varying regulations regarding the validity of eyewear prescriptions which we fully comply to. We are unable to accept out of date prescriptions and will cancel orders which are sent in with an out of date prescription. The Ray-Ban logo is included on all prescription eyewear.

Nothing to do with support of eye doctors. Simply showing it is standard practice to require a valid prescription for getting eyeware as you seem to think that Zeiss is out of line for requiring it. The Warby Parker website has more information about why the prescription is required and how long prescriptions are valid.

I totally agree with everything you said and understand that it is frustrating. I did not mean to be argumentative, just felt like Zeiss was being unfairly targeted. I have no personal interest in Zeiss and frankly never even heard of them before the Vision Pro announcements.


I hope you stick with your purchase and find this new technology to be a mind blowing experience. I'm on the sidelines for now, but it is on my wishlist. Good luck with whatever you decide and have a great evening.

Nah you're good. I appreciate the logical discussion and showing me what others policies are. You've helped me realize maybe I'm being a bit over the top with my feelings about them. Though....check out this link. I started the process under PRESCRIPTION sunglasses at RayBan and there's no uploading a paper prescription and confirming....you just type in the numbers and click the box "By clicking this box, I confirm that the prescription values entered above are taken from a valid (not expired) prescription issued to me, signed by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist."...........so it is like I remember.

The fact Zeiss is making this difficult is really frustrating. Why can't there just be a box like that? Now I have no choice but to go to a stupid eye doctor and get an exam just for this. Insanity. Because I really don't want to cancel my order. Ugh.


I've heard of Zeiss for decades. They make very high quality camera lenses. Some of the best in the biz as far as I remember. I didn't know they made lenses for glasses until this product. I wish they weren't so dumb here!

Yeah I tried. It's only because I asked for it in August 2022 that I even have a paper copy of it, but I only just noticed it says expires 1 year. I called the office the other day, explained my issue and got some nasty technician who didn't care, said she couldn't extend it and was rude and obnoxious. Never going back there again. Going to try and get a simple eye exam somewhere else later today.

I also had Zeiss reject my prescription, "prescription is out of range"

I have been emailing Zeiss on what are the ranges they accept. Only generic answers. My ophthalmologist requested for me to get the "range" and could maybe try some other prescriptions that might work. He said he would need to know how far out of the range I was. I am not going to cancel my AVP order until I try all options. Very disappointed in Zeiss not sharing the normal "range"
