the instructions to fix my iPhone say to connect to computer with charger that came with device what if I don’t have the charger that came with the device

You use the cable to connect. It doesn't have to be the exact cable that came with the phone but you will need a cable that has a Lightning connector on the phone end and either a USB or USB-C connector (depending on what the computer has) on the end that connects to the computer. The cable that you use the charge your phone will have one of those connectors.
