Should iPhone camera be able to capture a "full" 360 panorama?

I would like to be able to take a full 360 panorama of my backyard for importing into a full sky astrophotography app.

I bought a cheap camera holder for my tripod. Using the default camera application using the Pano mode I spent over an hour trying to get my camera as well as my iPad to capture a full 360 of my yard but the camera invariably made it's capture around 270 degrees instead of the full 360.

If it makes any difference my iPhone is a 14plus. My iPad is perhaps 3 years old. I couldn't really get a straight answer for this online. Some articles seemed to indicate that a 360 image was possible, others seemed to show that it wasn't possible.

If this should be possible would you have any ideas in why I am not able to get a full capture? If this isn't possible I am wondering whether someone might have a recommendation for a good app to use that would be able to get a full 360? It would be a bonus if the app could have an inbuilt compass to refine the start and stop of the photo (such as in the Theodolite app).
