No FB messenger notifications when iPhone 11 on silent

3/4 days ago my FB messenger app updated. Since then, if my iPhone is on silent then notifications for messenger don’t show up. I will open the messenger and have a flood of messages hours old that never buzzed or in my notifications even.

I have restarted my phone and redownloaded FB messenger without any luck but having my phone off silent isn’t an option most of the time. Thinking I have no messages when this app is not open how I mainly communicate with friends, family, or clients makes communicating impossible. Even when the app is open in background it will not give notifications.
