Docking station turns off when connecting to Macbook Pro
MacBook Pro: 14-inch, 2023 (M2 Pro)
- Memory 32 GB
- macOS Sonoma 14.2.1
- Dock is driverless, so there is nothing to update as far as I can tell.
Issue first noted 1.13.2024
Previously hardware working seamlessly since initial purchase October 2024.
When I plug in my MBP to the TB4 dock, the dock turns off and the MBP stops charging. Trying to turn the dock back on causes the dock to power down after a few seconds. Happens regardless of whether there are external monitors or other accessories connected to the dock. I'm using the TB4 cable included with the dock, but it's occurred with other TB3 cables that I've also tried (with only the dock connected to the laptop). I do not recall if there were any recent updates on my Mac.
I have plugged in my wife's M2 Macbook Air and it works fine. For some reason, when trying with the MBP again, dock magically stayed on. However, the issue has happened again and I can't seem to find any similar explanations online.
Unclear if this may be a MBP issue (almost like it's drawing too much power and causing dock to turn off?). Plugging in the MBAir didn't correct the issue on the MBP (but did still work on the Air). Turning off the computer and waiting two minutes before turning it back on did fix the issue this time.
Any way to reliably prevent this in the future?
Any ideas if this is a Kensington dock issue vs MBP issue vs something else (given MBAir works fine with it, albeit with one less external monitor successfully connected).
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
