Headphone Audio with Mac mini M2 and Studio Display.

Just purchased a new Mac mini M2 and Studio Display. I am running into the following problem; when I play music everything sounds normal through the Studio Display speakers. However, when I plug my Audio Jack connected to my headphones into the Mac mini, the music continues to play through the Studio Display speakers and the sound is not automatically interrupted and continued through the headphone. When I use it via Bluetooth it works properly. I have never experienced this problem before with other Apple equipment such as MacBook Pro and iMac 2020.

Updates are OK.

What is going wrong and thanks for all possible tips and advice!

Make sure you don’t have it “connected” in bluetooth at same time you have it connected physically in the audio output

i would think it’s some physical vs bluetooth.

Also, in Audio (output) settings check what outputs are active there.

Deeper: open Audio and Midi (just in case) in Utilities, and see which outputs show active there. We usually go there for external audio interface, but see how the monitor, perhaps, show in there - same for your headphones when connected physically.

Normally, when plug in the headphone jack in the Mac mini and the other side in the headphone, Studio Display Speakers and headphone Bluetooth should automatically disconnect. The music should than be playing only through the headphone. This is how it works on my iMac & MacBook. I can not imagine that I should have to swith manually all the time within the Mac settings.
