I HAVE install 4 number 8 g ram cards in my IMac27 when I first bought the computer but now feel its time to up grade again. What I need to know is what is the largest ram card I can install in this machine and what make/type of memory card do I need.

Apple's specs say 64GB, but the 2019 27" iMac can acctually accommodate up to 128GB.

Don't feel. Evaluate, quantify, measure.
If your Mac's performance is not being constrained by memory limitations then installing more would be a waste of money.
It's very easy to determine if your Mac's performance is being limited by available memory. Please read Check if your Mac needs more RAM in Activity Monitor - Apple Support. If the "Memory Pressure" graph is frequently "red" your Mac would benefit from additional memory. If not, it won't. It's that simple.
What year iMac?
The earliest 27" iMac - 2009 - would top out at 32GB RAM.
The newest - 2020 - can accommodate up to 128GB.
The iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) (Not sure if that is your one) can go to 64GB - double the 4 x 8 = 32GB you currently have.
