Text Box not working in Mac Pages, letters jumbled

I recently updated to Monterey 12.7.1 The computer is an iMac 5k 27inch that I purchased new in 2016. After the update I have noticed several problems. One of the problems occurs when using Pages. I am trying to add a text box. Whenever I type in the text box the letters type in a reversed order. Example: I type the word "driveway" and it appears "dyawevir". If I try to hold shift for making the first letter uppercase, then only the first letter will appear and it won't let any following letters be typed. If I type it all in lowercase then the first letter appears in the correct position but the following letters show up in a jumbled format. Thank you in advance for any help,
