How to turn off Siri suggesting Check In on iPhone

Like many of the folks who reported this, I have no idea how this was enabled.

The fix though:

• Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check (i'm on iOS 17.5.1)
• While in the Safety Check screen, select "Manage Sharing & Access"
• You will notice on the splash screen a selection called "Review People" which includes location sharing.
• Hit the "Continue" button and you should now see who you are sharing with.
• Select the contact for which you started receiving the Checkin notifications
• Select the location service and hit the "Stop Sharing" button.
• You will see a warning screen of some sort indicating that you will stop location sharing and the person will be notified, blah blah blah.
• Select 'continue'
• To confirm you have stopped location sharing/checkins, open Messages and select the contact. You should now see a 'quiet' notice stating "Check In Ended".

Again, I don't know how this was enabled as I 'thought' I stopped sharing my location with this contact a long time ago. Alas, it was reenable at some point. <shrug>

I think this may be the key. I had turned off Siri suggestions in Siri and for the Messages app, but had not turned off suggestions in the “Find My” app:

Settings > Siri & Search > Find My > disable Suggestions

For good measure, I also turned off location sharing in Find My:

Settings > Apple ID > Find My > disable Share My Location

I’d prefer to share location with one person in my Apple family (not the person who I’ve been repeatedly browbeaten into checking in with), but will sacrifice that to see if I can break this curse.

I had to resort to disabling location services entirely for the Messages app. Now my wife can no longer share her location with anyone via Messages, but at least I’m not getting spammed continuously with checkins.

Under Siri & Search, each app that can give Siri suggestions has a section at the bottom. Turn Siri Suggestions off under the “Find My” app section.

When the notification comes up, swipe half way to the left and you will see two tabs (option and clear). When you choose option there is a way to turn it off this type of notification.

I think I may have figured out how to turn this off. I’m going to have to see if it suggests it again but I searched in my settings for Siri and under the bottom option called “Siri & search” it has an option “show contact suggestions” I turned this off. Maybe this will fix this creepy feature popups. Mine just started doing this last week and it has happened twice. I also turned off the “learn from this app” option because it says it allows Siri to learn how to use your cintacts.

Siri Suggestions are on by default for your apps. You can turn them off or change the settings at any time.

1. Go to Settings  > Siri & Search, scroll down, then select an app.
2. Turn settings on or off.

I think you can fix this if you stop Siri from accessing your location to personalize suggestions. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and turn off Suggestions & Search.

Unfortunately, I am not sharing location with any of my contacts and this is still an issue for me.

Here is what I’m trying:

settings —> Messages —> Siri & Search —> suggestions —> and I toggled off: show in app, show on Home Screen, and suggest app.

I’m crossing my fingers that this fixes it. 🤞

I experienced this for the first time today as I was leaving my office, prompting a text message to an arms-length contact with a check in and my home ETA.

Screenshot below of the (now disabled) settings. I did leave my search features on because I will sometimes ask Siri to find information that I know is buried in my texts somewhere.

Hopefully this does the trick. I guess time will tell…

As far as I can tell Siri is automatically enabled to “learn from” each app. To disable the feature go to settings/Siri/click off for each ind app. Mine was prompting me to check in with someone based on data culled from the Lyft app, presumably.

In Settings -> Map -> Share Arrival .

Tick it off.
