I have a Late 2014 Mac mini that is still operating on Catalina. I was wondering if I should update the OS and if so, how far forward should I bring it - Monterey? Big Sur? Ventura?
I am definitely no expert, so would appreciate guidance on this!

I say yes, update to Monterey because Catalina is no longer supported.

if all of my Macs were capable of running Sonoma, that is what they all would be running.
and while it is possible to "skip over" a few macOS, some users have experienced problems after doing so. IMHO you should only upgrade one macOS at a time all the way up to Sonoma. especially if you have the time to do so.
den.thed is correct. I saw your question's title. it states 2024 Mac mini. I didn't't notice that the body of your post states 2014 mini. which is the correct model year of your mini?
