When I got a new computer iMac, the emails I had saved on my Mac were gone (I have Yahoo email). It was suggested unless indicated otherwise, Yahoo would have saved those emails on the server, but I don't know how to check that.

All you need to do is go to their webpage (yahoo.com), sign into your account and then you should have access. All providers have maximums - time and/or size/space - but they'll keep them for a while before deleting them.
