Time Machine Drive

My sister gave me her M1 Macbook Air but asked me to back up her stuff. I created a time machine drive and today she got another macbook so I started to use the time machine drive to get her up and going. Everything was going well til the transfer stopped and asked me to restart. I did everything again but now the drive won't show up on either hers or mine. Tried different usb adapters, tried to see if it was the drive itself but it shows up on windows partition and even on seatools but it says that no data is on it. My question is if there's a chance that the drive got wiped for some reason during the transfer?

It's formatted in APFS (Case Sensitive). When I ran the backup, I let it finish and it prompted me to exit the app as it was all done. When I was restoring the information onto the new system. It said the drive had 50Gb of data and that the transfer would take 14 hours or so. So i let it run and came back about an hour later and the drive had turned off while on screen it said that drive had been lost, to reconnect again. Tried to but no luck.
