Starlink and Apple Devices Constantly Dropping

I don't believe I'm the only one having this problem; when I hooked up Starlink in October 2023, it was amazing; for the last week or so, all of my Apple devices constantly drop. Android, HP products--printers and laptops as well as DirectTV and all other devices stay connected and do not have issues.

I've toggled off the private wifi address option and the private relay option after reading on other forums that it could be the issue--still not any better; yesterday, it was popping on and off the internet literally every 15 - 30 seconds. It was maddening--I work from home and can't get any work completed without internet access.

I live in a rural area--cable not available, FiOS not available--only Neubeam which pathetically runs at maybe 5 mbps. I dropped Neubeam in October 2023 once Starlink became available in my area.

It was amazing until now. Does anyone know what to do? I have support tickets into Starlink with device list, version information, screenshots of Starlink error messages. Starlink app will tell me I'm not connected to the internet, offline, router not configured or Starlink rebooting or unplugged--all of which are not true if everyone else on a non-apple device is still happily connected.

I'm now having to use my phone as a hotspot over cellular to connect my laptop.

I know I'm not the only one going through this; help!

To all of my fellow Apple/Starlink patrons, I do believe the solution has been found. What has worked splendidly for me is logging on to the Starlink app and disabling the 5GHz frequency--split it or don't split it, but do disable it.

1) Go to the DASHBOARD on Starlink.com after logging in to your Starlink account.

2) Scroll down to DEVICES and find your router; click on CONFIGURE.

3) Under ADVANCED NETWORK OPTIONS, scroll down and toggle DISABLE 5GHz.

4) Apply the changes to all mesh nodes, routers, etc.

5) Reboot everything and you should be good to go.

After over a month of banging my head against the wall, this was the solution. My iPad mini, iPhone 12 mini and my MacBook Pro constantly dropped every few minutes before this configuration.

Best of luck friends!

next

hold the Option key while you click on the WiFI icon on the menubar.

choose wireless diagnostics, and the Assistant Window opens. Click (continue).

Over the next several minutes, you will get a quick check of you settings and GROSS workability.

if it provides any recommendations, you should likely heed them.

There are also several other windows on its Window menu that can be used to get more information, most of which is very obscure.

First, this on Poisoning Internet performance:

By far the easiest way to cause poor performance, instability, overheating and crashing is to install ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners. or a VPN that you installed yourself. The main reason is that they are relentless in scanning your files, non-stop, looking for things virus-like patterns in Everything. When completed, they do it all again.

The idea that a third party, with no special knowledge of the inner workings of MacOS, can somehow find a simple way to protect your computer — that is not already being done by MacOS itself — suggests that the MacOS developers are somehow "holding out on you". That is absurd.

You should remove any and all (other than Apple built-in) virus scanners, speeder uppers, optimizers, cleaners, App deleters or VPN packages you installed yourself, or anything of that ilk.

Third-party file Sync-ers such as DropBox, BackBlaze, OneDrive, or GoogleDrive can ruin performance, but are not inherently dangerous.

what makes diagnosing and solving wi-Fi problems (including Starlink) much more complex is that the signals are traveling in unknown ways through your local "network neighborhood". The signals themselves drop off as the inverse cube of the distance from the Router, and do not travel through ordinary building materials well, and through solid masonry almost not at all. Signals may then get clobbered by interference from other nearby Routers, microwave ovens, baby monitors, certain portable landline phones, radar, and many other causes.

We are also discovering that although Wi-fi six devices have the Potential to be faster, their patterns must persist for longer, and are MORE delicate and More subject to interference than older signals. Wider data channels to not necessarily yield increased speed.

Best assessments can be made after examining your performance snapshot: hold the Option key while clicking on the Wi-Fi icon on the menubar, and screenshot, photograph, or transcribe the values shown, similar to this older one:
