Videos converted into photos(Jpeg) when I imported them to MacBook

I imported my photos and videos from my iPhone 14 to my MacBook Pro m2. I copied imported files and pasted it in a directory/folder and deleted the imported files. Then I deleted my files from my iPhone.

Issue 1 : Now I am not able to import them back from the folder even if I click import to photos.

Issue 2 : All my videos are gone ! I don't have a back up as well, how can I get them back ?

iPhone 14, iOS 16

You didn't mention whether you checked the Recently Deleted folder. It holds photos and videos for thirty days after you delete them to give you time to reconsider (unless you manually destroy that safety belt by removing them there also).

If you literally used "copy" and "paste" on the videos, you probably copied only the preview images and lost the motion part then. The photos would also lose details when you copy the preview images and paste them elsewhere. Drag-and-drop would have the same problem. Only the Export command preserves details and format.
