Text to speech stopped working on Kindle classic app for MacBook Pro

I have been using the kindle classic app for Mac and my text to speech has always worked fine. It stopped working today and I have looked at every thing that I could think of online to find a solution and have come up with nothing. When I click on the read control it appears to be working but nothing happens. Help!

Agree with VikingOSX that you should contact Kindle support.

Meanwhile, if a simple reboot of your Mac doesn’t fix things, see if the problem still happens in Safe mode. It can take much longer to safe boot (5 min) so be patient.

Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Safe mode will often correct weird software behavior by forcing the OS to do disk repair, clear caches and other housekeeping and disables third-party mods and acceleration. When you're in safe boot, the machine won’t be at its best performance, especially with graphics, but that's expected.

Does the problem persist while in Safe mode?

Exit safe mode by restarting your Mac normally and evaluate the issue again.

I'm using Sonoma 14.3. I'm functionally blind. Amazon Kindle text-to-speech app for Mac is not working. It has the comnmand available, but nothing happens when I click on it. I have set my Mac to read any text when I Zoom the page. That doesn't work either. I've tried highlighting the Kindle text and using my Mac to read it. That doesn't work either. There is nothing on the internet that addresses this issue from either Apple or Amazon.

Why isn't this issue being addressed? It is 2024, and these services have been around for years. In other words, FIX IT!
