key board letter K does not work consistently, does not stick but does not function regularly. I have used this key quite a lot in the past and perhaps it is worn? I used some forced air around the key thinking it was dirty but did not help.

This sounds to me like a key that is failing. Time to get that Mac evaluated. I believe the keyboard can be replaced if the key cannot be repaired.

[in my opinion] Strictly as fellow Mac User, armed with the information that the complex battery-trackpad-keyboard-topPlate module is the one that would be replaced in either situation, I would cancel that repair order and submit my MacBook Pro for a battery replacement.
The standard charge is US$250. Then adding on shipping, that looks like an under US$300 repair instead of a under US$800 repair.
PROVIDED that you have NO OTHER unresolved issues not disclosed here, that is likely to get you the needed relief at a lower overall cost.
NB>> if you have other festering issues not mentioned here, you will be facing an ADDITIONAL repair at the US$800 level later.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support
if you run that and get APD000 as the only result, that looks up to:
"No faults detected" -- not quite the same as "all is well", but as close as you can get running that tool for that amount of time.
The "approved method" is to contact Apple support, and have them send you a "courier pack" which is the right shape to avoid damage in transit, and pre-addressed to the depot, wherever that is.

And yes, shipping to a repair depot is common, even in major metropolitan areas of the 'lower 48' states.

Battery health is poor, should be replaced also.
the component that will be replaced in either case is the same. You should not have to pay twice to have the same part replaced for a different reason.
