I have a Macbook Air from 2017, Model A1466, that I spilled water into. The laptop turned off right away and it been inoperable since. I’m getting a new laptop soon and would like to know if it’s possible to recover my files from that laptop to the new one.

If you are not able to power on this MBA, AND you are planning on scraping it, then one option would be to remove the internal drive. You would then place it into either a drive dock or an external enclosure that you could connect to your new Mac to retrieve any data off of it.

The extend of the damage is unknown, my be the Hard drive suffered as well.
The only way to know that is to use it as external drive on new Mac.
Those are the time when you wish you would have used the time machine back up
