A friend of mine broke his macbook pro 2021 and it is a lot of money for a college student to get it replaced. So I was wondering if getting a locked Macbook Pro and just using its screen could solve the problem. I’ll use the logic board of his own Macbook which is unlocked and working. Could this work?
Yes, that should work just fine.
A cloud locked Mac won't allow access to the machine via the logic board and normal startup, but components like the screen, physical drives and optical drive can be reclaimed.
The donor would have to be exactly the same model. Macbook Pro displays have changed along the way, and its possible that only the display from another 2021 would even have a chance of working. If the donor unit is not Apple Silicon, even the connectors may not be the same.
a "Locked" MacBook Pro may be locked because it was stolen.
Unless you can assure yourself that this one was NOT stolen, you are slightly encouraging theft of MacBook Pro ... which slightly encourages theft of yours as well.
Okay so disregard the ic lock. What if I get a screen from eBay. Would it work fine with the macbook? Its a 14inch Macbook Pro 2021, and I read some articles saying that if the screen isn’t calibrated or replaced by apple. The top bar/margin is blurr
