Another update.
after almost 9-10months of using Apple Watch as a…well… just a watch that plays music through AirPods (cause as I mentioned before ecg and heartbeat sensors do not work and battery in energy saving mode lasts around 3-4h) I had another visit to the store.
May first I was seeking help from professional technical support through official app beacie I got tired of those visits at the store.
So I described my problem inside the app (without chatting with live agent) and was surprised seeing options I haven’t been given before. That is : sending replacement to me (and then I send old watch to them) or dropping it at the store. It seemed as if Apple admitted that issue exists and wanted to do something with it.
so I chose dropping it at the store because the first option required using my card to secure some deposit in case if I don’t send my old device back upon receiving new one.
When coming to the store, surprisingly they didn’t know what I came for. 🤔
secondly, they needed to perform a check again. And there was another surprise (or rather shock). Remember how I mentioned in original comment that after first check all hardware was fine but there was definitely software glitch confirmed by Apple staff? Well, for last 8 months I used it for morning running from time to time and rest of time it was laying down on soft fabric in room temperature, and this time when the guy did hardware check, he said that there’s problem with sensors and with battery . I mean …really?? So either first check was a failure or the device is falling apart by itself .
So they said I can send it back and if I qualify for battery replacement then it’ll be 14.000 yen (of course when I asked at the end that was when he’s given me actual price which includes tax) and that if they disagree that it’s just battery issue (for instance they’ll confirm that the sensor needs replacement) it might cost more, and also that after I receive the device even though it will be brand new watch gen 7 (because they can’t replace the battery actually, they can only replace the whole device and charge for what normally would qualify as battery replacement) I won’t be able to purchase AppleCare because it’s not a latest device that’s being sold on daily basis but a replacement for old one. Again…really?
not to mention that guy at the store said that AppleCare can be purchased within max 30days of product purchase.
personally I’m wondering if staff in japan is completely not aware and not properly trained (I mean without any biases I can tell that in Japan 99,9% people I’ve met were not aware of 95% of iPhone features at least) and why do they not pick people who can speak English (there’s quite large number of tourists and foreigners living in japan). Because what the staff tells you and what’s available online are two very different things.
so anyway, I might get new gen 7 watch and might or might not (which would be weird in that case) qualify for AppleCare . And what if sensors will stop working after a month or after first update? What then?
