Streaming services on my old 2015 Macbook Pro 10.11.6 no longer compatible with browsers

I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro 10.11.6 (I know, it's old) which runs pretty well. Suddenly today none of my streaming services seemed to work - Disney error code 83. My software is updated. I've restarted and done all the things that usually work.

I use Chrome - which now says it does not support - "This computer will no longer receive Google Chrome updates because macOS 10.6–10.12 are no longer supported."

I then tried to download a new version on firefox - same issue.

I then tried Opera - When I click download it does nothing.

Please help! I do not want to have to spend 1k + just to watch disney as the computer runs perfectly well otherwise. Surely there is a way around this?

Other notes: I have paused any blockers, add ons, firewalls etc too.

Yes, there is a way around this streaming problem and that is to upgrade your operating system.

Your 2015 MacBook Pro is capable of running the latest version of macOS 12 Monterey.

If you'd like to get the greatest longevity and compatibility from your computer then you must upgrade from 10.11 El Capitan, an OS that is six (!) generations older.

By not upgrading the OS you haven't taken advantage of any of the many improvements made in the years since that laptop was released, and you've shortened the useful life of the hardware.

You can do yourself a favor and bite the bullet and upgrade to the newest macOS version the computer can run, and then use that Mac productively for a few more years. Or you can pitch this Mac into the bin and spend that $1k on a new one sooner.

Please note that since the release of macOS 10.15 Catalina in late 2019, all software on the Mac must be 64-bit versions; no old 32-bit apps and drivers will work. This includes Microsoft Office, Adobe applications and others. Most if not all of the apps released in the past five years meet this requirement.

Use the free utility Go64 from St. Claire Software to check the 64-bit compatibility of your currently installed apps and know which you'll need to update or replace.

The macOS version you can upgrade to depends on the year your Mac was released.

✅ Check the compatibility of your Mac hardware with newer versions of macOS software:

➡️ macOS 12 Monterey is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 13 Ventura is compatible with the Macs listed here

If your Mac is compatible with the OS upgrade, then upgrade by doing this:

Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Or use this Alternative Method–

➡️ Download the macOS upgrade installer app:

Click > macOS 12 Monterey.

Once downloaded, double-click the “Install macOS…” app now found in the Applications folder to begin the upgrade.
