Birthdays of address book accounts others than local

There appear no birthdays in iCal for contacts of Apple's address book, if the contact are NOT within the Local account, but part of a CardDAV account. If I copy a contact to the Local account the birthday appears in iCal.

My iPhone (iOS4) uses also CardDAV to sync these contacts, but the birthdays are shown in the iPhone's calendar perfectly.

Is iCal able to handle birthdays of Local contacts only?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iCal 4.0.3 (1388)

I am not sure if you figured it out if it was just an update that fixed it, but I changed my default address book to the server and the birthdays for all my associated address books are presenting themselves when I clicked preferences>General> Show Birthdays calendar. I did loose all the birthdays initially when I imported them into the server, but I added a default field and am re-populating them and all seems good.

I still have the same problem with 10.7.4. My Contacts sit in an Owncloud and I use them via carddav. In Owncloud I defined all the birthday fields in each contact. My iPhone (3GS, iOS 5.1.1) can read all the contacts and the birthdays seamlessly. However, on all my macs not a single birthday shows up in the address book. It doesn't help to copy the contacts to some local address book..

I hope Apple finds a solution to this problem?!

Hey Apple, thank you for just keeping a more than 3 year old "bug" alive!😠

I believe that this is keept intentionally to "convince" people to use iCloud for what reason ever.

As it works with iCloud properly and iCloud is a caldav-, carddav-based service, it's an evidence it's generally working. It's just that there's not enough pressure to make them act...

just my 2cents

sorry folks, I know it's no step towards a proper solution, but I had to get it off my chest...
