command + tab not working

when I use the command+tab combination to switch between apps, it only shows the app being switched to on the top left screen next to the apple logo. it doesn't open the running app and i have to either use the trackpad to switch or click on the app icon in my taskbar. Is there a way to solve this? i have updated my MacBook to the latest version MacOS Sonoma 14.3. the device that I use is an 2020 MacBook Air.

thanks in advance

I think it's because the app is minimized. So when you use command+tab and the focus is on the wanted one, you have to keep pressing command and press option to force to unminimize it.

It's a thing that frustrates a lot of people, I can't understand the logic behind it. We don't have a shortcut to unminimize application outside the switcher, like shift+command+m, so what is the point of displaying minimized applications on the switcher without any indications?
