How do your turn off apple air tags to save battery

Apple does not provide any methods to turn an AirTag "on" or "off." The Bluetooth beacon in the tag is designed to transmit every 3-5 mins to save battery life. The typical life is up to one year and would depend on environmental conditions that affect any lithium battery.
