Changing Apple ID

I need to change my Apple ID without losing my apps and data. I have backed up my data using iCloud and a third party app to back up to my laptop as well.

What I need to know is how can I backup or otherwise recover the apps installed on my iPad once I login with my new Apple ID?

iPad Air 2, iPadOS 15

Yes, you are reading that correctly. Here's how you change the email address (Apple ID) you use for your Apple Account while retaining everything in your account:

If you have an iPhone or iPad:

1. Go to Settings, then tap your name.

2. Tap Sign In & Security.

3. Next to Email & Phone Numbers, tap Edit.

4. Tap the Remove button next to the email address, then tap Delete.

5. Tap Choose Another Email Address and enter your device passcode if asked.

6. Enter the new email address, then tap Continue.

7. Enter the verification code that was sent to your new email address. Read this support article to learn what to do if you didn’t get the email —> If you didn't receive your verification or reset email - Apple Support

8. If you encounter issues with certain services after doing this, this outdated support article may still have useful suggestions --> What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support

Refer to the support article Change your Apple ID - Apple Support :

- If you don’t have an iPhone or iPad the support article says to, “go to https://appleid.apple.com and sign in. Then follow the onscreen instructions to change the email address associated with your Apple ID.”

- For general information, and other issues such as changes or addresses not being accepted.

- Note a recent change to the article where you can now change the email address without having to have access to your old email account.

The correct way to change your Apple ID without losing apps and data is by following this Support Article:

Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

If you created a new Apple ID, the apps that were downloaded on the old Apple ID will not be able to update. The apps will remain on the device when you log out of your Apple ID, but when it comes time for them to update, you will get constant alerts telling you to enter the Apple ID and Password used to download the app. You will not be able to use your old iCloud with your new Apple ID. Data such as pictures are easier to transfer whether by downloading them from iCloud or AirDropping from another device.

I haven't yet created the new Apple ID; I was trying to cover my bases before I made any changes. It appears that if I follow the simple steps from the article link you were kind enough to share, I should be able to change my email (in this case same as my email) and not lose any data or run into issues with updates; am I reading that correctly?

That is correct. You will be able to change the ID to your new email as long as the new email has not previously been used for an Apple ID.
