how to enable AirPlay on iMac

My MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 AirPlay is searching for Apple TV, but I have a

Samsung with AirPlay enabled in the settings. I am unable to get the Mac

AirPlay Display option in display settings to toggle from "Off" to

"On". I am on a Starlink wireness network. Any thoughts on how to get

AirPlay to work?

Your Mac should be running Ventura version 10.13.6 which is the latest version of Mac OS a 2017 iMac can run, is there some reason you have not updated it? That should be first thing to do. The next thing then is to follow the link I initially provided so you AirPlay some content to your Samsung. Also, please remember that not all content can be AirPlayed due to restrictions imposed by the content providers. If you continue to have a problem, I would strongly recommend that you call AppleCare, if you don't know the phone number for your country, please click AppleCare Contact Info , locate the number and give them a ring.

It would be more helpful to us if you described what you are attempting to do. For example:

"I have a 2015 27" iMac running 10.12.6, I subscribe to Apple TV+ on my iMac using The TV app on my iMac and would like to stream the Apple TV + content from my iMac to my 2023 Samsung model XYZ.?"

Without basics we can't really tell what you are attempting to achieve.

I suspect that what you are attempting may not be supported on your iMac due to it's age however without know what you have its difficult to determine that.

Thank you for your reply. I will be more thorough in my discussion.

2017 macOS Sierra 10.12.6

AirPlay icon in the top bar; "AirPlay Display" toggle in the System Preferences Displays control panel; mirroring options checkbox in the System Preferences Display control panel.

2022 Samsung Crystal UHD 7 series TU 700D TV

AirPlay enabled in systems general menu

Apple information says this TV is compatible with AirPlay

Starlink; wireless network identical in both devices; Mozilla Firefox browser 115.7.0esr (64-bit)

With both devices turned on, with both devices connected to the same network, when the AirPlay icon on the Mac is activated, the message toggles between "Looking for Apple TV" and "Off", but does not locate the TV although they are within 10' of each other. The System Preferences Displays control panel's "AirPlay Display" selection toggle has no other choice but "Off" although there is a toggle switch. The checkbox for "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" is checked, but I have not located a mirroring icon.

I am attempting to cast the Met Opera "Live at Home" live stream from the Mac to the Samsung. In their Technical Requirement discussion the Met Opera states: cast the performances to your smart TV from your desktop computer using Chromecast or AirPlay. . . . We do not recommend trying to access the links in a connected/smart TV.

If there is any other information necessary please do let me know. Thank you very much!
