I recently purchased a new iMac in December 2023. Suffice it to say when I recently did an update for the Sonoma OS the recent files have gone empty. I have tried relaunching finder but it didn’t work. I need to resolve this as this feature makes running my business easier by locating files more efficiently that going to their actual locations. Never had this problem before Sonoma. Need help ASAP!

Failing that… If you have any add-on cleaner apps, add-on anti-malware apps, add-on first-few-hops VPN apps, or other similar apps installed, remove all those per the vendors’ instructions, restart, rebuild Spotlight, and check again.

In order to do a full re-launch of Finder just hold down the Option key and right-click the Finder icon. A pop-up window will then appear and click the re-launch option. This will actually do a full restart of the Finder application within OS X and will refresh the entire file system.
Recents is a Smart Folder that is dependent on spotlight to populate. When you install an update or an upgrade the spotlight index is rebuilt on first power up. If you go look at a Recents while it's still rebuilding the index, you won't see anything. Check your spotlight activity in Activity monitor, looking for MDS
