Want to move instrument plugins (also NI) to external HD /cannot get other brands instruments plugins in LP screen

Already looked for info on the net but this is trickier than expected.

Use Logic Pro 10.7.4, Studio One, Ableton Formatted my external HD 6TB before use.

Here I will describe in detail what I already did.

I created a map with earlier -band- recordings in different separate 'Project' maps (different bands) with related names on the external HD just to be stored

I created a map with the software DAW programs just to be stored

For Logic use from external disk use I read on the internet I also had to copy the Logic map from the MacHD to the external disk.

I copied the complete 'Library' map to the HD in a separate map called 'Library' (with Application Support (Garageband+Logic) in it).

Created on the HD separate 'Projects' maps for Garageband, Live and Studio One to store projects I am working on and made in different DAW's

Sounds and instruments:

For use in Logic Pro and the other DAW's I created a map: 'Sound_library_VST&AU' with separate maps in it:

- 'Ableton' map with earlier Ableton instruments in it

-'Native Instruments' map with complete plugins instruments in it

-'Spitfire Audio' map with plugins, sounds & samples,

-'StevenSlate' map with plugins sounds & samples

-'Waves' map with plugins

In Logic Pro I choose LPro/Sound Library/Relocate/external HD

but I do no see in the Logic screen in the Library/left bottom the other brands plugins... this is the problem

Also tried Pro/sound library/ re-install sound library, no succes

I also read that you need to copy the 'Apple Loops' map from the MacHD to the external HD.

I copied it from MacHD in the 'Sound_Library_VST&AU map

Finally I guess this detailed info will give insight and hope someone here can give me advise to solve my problem

I don’t understand the term “map”.

Audio plug-ins have to be located on the start hd. Au-Plugins (the plug-in Format Logic reads)have to be located inside the component folder on the start hd. You can’t simply move them to an external hd. You can relocate libraries though. It’s pretty easy to do this with 3rd party libraries with the corresponding apps like native access, spitfire audio…. It’s also possible to relocate Logic’s library to an external drive but I avoid that, because this can become pretty annoying.

It sounds like you were able to get Apple's sound library on the external drive successfully, but Logic is not finding the 3rd party plugins and sample libraries?

If that is the issue, you can have them work, but it is done by the 3rd party access apps in the application folder.

Quit logic.

Goto your application folder or Launchpad (F4) and open

Native Access - for NI

Waves Central for Waves

Spitfire Audio

etc.

Each should have a setting where you can point where your samples are now located. Once you do that you can open logic and your plug ins and samples should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ben, thanks for your reply.

This is what I did. I will describe the actions taken in Native Access and what happened.

I first uninstalled from Native Access 2 (newer black version) all stuff with the 'uninstall' option (for the ones with this option available) Then I reinstalled all these ones. Some I could not uninstall, mostly applications.

Kontakt Elements Selection 0.0.0 (R2) asks for 'Locate' and then gives /Users/Shared but choosing 'Confirm' (only option) gives red reply 'that path is invalid' I did not take further action on this one now. It's a 0.0.0 ?? and there is no size of it readable..

-Kontakt Factory Selection 1.4.2 is installed in folder /Users/Shared/Kontakt Factory Selection Library (Mac HD)

-Kontakt Factory Selection 2 1.1.0 is reinstalled in correct folder on external HD

-Maschine2 2.17.5 located /Applications/NI/Maschine2 I guess it is not good to relocate a application. Made no changes

-Maschine2 Factory Library 1.3.9 reinstalled correctly on external HD

-Massive 1.15.12 located /Applications/NI/Massive made no changes, there are to many folders/files involved

-Ozone 11.0.0 located /Library/Application Support/iZotope/Ozone Equalizer, made no changes many files involved

-Phasis 1.3.1 located /Applications/NI/Phasis, made no changes

-Raum 1.3.1 located /Applications/NI/Raum made no changes

-Reaktor 6 Player 6.5.0 located /Applications/NI/Reaktor6 made no changes

-Reaktor Blocks Wired & Reaktor Factory Selection R2 reinstalled correctly to external HD

-Replika 1.6.1 located /Applications/NI/Replika

-Solid Bus Comp Fx 1.4.5 located /Applications/NI/Solid Bus FX no changes made

-Supercharger located /Applications/NI/Supercharger. no changes made

-Vinyl1.12.1 located /Library/Application Support/iZotope/Vinyl no changes made

The rest of all the plugins where correctly installed on the external HD

Another question I have is when I install new NI stuff and I choose to store it on my external drive (like it is now in Preferences of Logic) will the Mac store the application software of these instruments in Applications on the Mac HD and only the plugin-data on the external HD? Are there maybe other things I need to give attention?

Thx Hans
