2nd Gen Apple Pencil exchange needed

Bought a new 10th Gen Apple iPad Air which is a Christmas gift for my wife. Another family member bought an Apple Pencil also for Christmas. Best Buy Spokane on Indiana Ave recommended the 2nd Gen Pencil. A way past 14 days we learn the 2nd Gen Pencil is the wrong one. Have no receipt and quit trying to find it. How do I exchange it for the 1st Gen Pencil which, apparently, is what we need? Roger ........ps: I think that I have purchased 7 or so computers and tablets from Best Buy so I am not a crook!

Best Buy was wrong. Both the USB-C & 1st Gen Apple Pencils are compatible with the 10th generation iPad. Clearly the sales representative was mistaken.

In this case, you will need to work this out with Best Buy. Not sure what their exact return policy is, but I suggest you take it up with Best Buy's management at the store this pencil was purchased.
