factory reset macbook air running macos x

Trying to sell my old macbook air but it won’t factory reset. I tried restarting and using command r, shutting it down and holding command r and options while starting it up. The furthest i’ve got is turning it on while holding option but it brings up a drive that just takes me back to my home screen.

A bit more detail about the model year and OS version might help.
