Logic audio track take became out of sync with the tempo

I'm running Logic v10.7.9 on MacOS Monterey 12.6.7 on an iMac. I was working in an established project when, all of a sudden, one of the tracks started playing delayed audio in relation to other tracks. What was odd was that it was not only delayed, but the delay kept growing longer as the track played, as if the track in that section had become stretched, or was playing at a different clock speed. The problem was audible AND graphical - I could see the mis-alignment on the screen as well as hear it.

I could not find anything I had done that was causing this, and despite doing multiple Undo's, the problem persisted. I restarted the software thinking that the glitch would go away, but it did not! It persisted upon restart, which meant that somehow this weird condition was being saved in data in the Logicx file.

I went to display the takes in the track and discovered that the take that was playing was out of sync with the other takes that I was NOT playing. I could see the delay only in the take I was using. So, to correct the problem I thought "Ok, I'll just switch takes and I should be ok." And as soon as I switched takes, the problem corrected itself in the take I had just switched away from! The delay was gone, both audibly and graphically. So, I switched back to the original take I liked and moved on.

I have no idea how this happened, or how it could persist through a software restart. I also have no idea how it could have been affecting only one track, and in fact only one take of one track.

In case the developers have ever seen this, maybe one of them can explain what was happening.
