Enter to open file instead of renaming in finder.

Hi,

I am so annoyed with finder opening the rename function on my files when I press enter. How can I change that function? First, I don't want to accidentally rename files and secondly, I would be nice if that would open the file. It think, it is shorter more intuitive then pressing any kind of hotkey combination. I think there were tools to change this in past. What is the best way today to adjust that?

Stop pressing enter on file or folder icons hoping to open that entity. There is no retrograde customization to make it do what you want. Double-click a file or folder to open it, either in the default application for that file type, or expand the folder to see its contents.

In some cases, there is no need to open the file when supported by Apple's Quick Look in the Finder. Click once on a file and press the spacebar.

I don't understand why you mention the trackpad at all. I want the file to open when I press enter, and not rename it. I think, that is a pretty clear description and does not involve the trackpad nor the mouse.

The tipp with the space bar is quite handy indeed. I just don't want the rename dialogue to open when I click enter though. I don't want to accidentally open that and rename a file. And I want that file to be opened instead...

Maybe there are some MacOS developpers here who could implement that.

Enter to open file instead of renaming in finder.
